EDITORIAL
The battle of wits continues between government and teacher trainees in the various Colleges of Education. The ruling government, when given platforms to delineate their achievements and projects, resort to using the restoration and prompt payment of trainee allowances as hallmark of their excellence. They never seem to acknowledge the fact that they owe any arrears to trainees and that they pride themselves with only its restoration which seems to be their only bragging right when it comes to Teacher education. While some trainees depend on these allowances to either pay their fees or use it to feed themselves, the government is blind to the consequences the non payment of these allowances have on students and the entire Colleges of Education at large. THE BASE clarifies the current state of affairs and the fate of trainees in the current financial crisis of Ghana and when they should expect their first allowance in the year 2022

THE FATE OF LEVEL 100 STUDENTS
Newly admitted trainees in the various colleges of education should not, in any case whatsoever, expect their allowances to be paid anytime from now. One major reason for this assertion is the process of  validation of their data. The SLTF has to perfectly collate and sync student biodata in order to homogenously and uniformly begin payment of the monthly stipends. While this process may be delayed by student data errors and corrections, it is appropriate to postulate that, as a norm, FRESH trainees usually receive their cumulative four-month allowance at the end of their first semester and mostly beginning the second semester. Secondly, the current and pending CETAG strike is a major contributing factor to this painful but true assertion. Until these striking lecturers are settled and deliberated with, trainees should disregard any form of assurance indicating an imminent payment of their allowances.
THE FATE OF CONTINUING STUDENTS(LEVEL 200-400)
Continuing students in the various Colleges of Education should expect the usual promise of a complete clearance of their arrears in the SHORTEST POSSIBLE TIME. These blatant elusions are to calm nerves in order to stop these aggrieved trainees from engaging in demonstrations which will likely scathe the image of the ruling government and render its plans and policies unpopular, exposing their lies. These fake dates of payment of allowances will come from authoritative sources and will come intermittently. Level 400 trainees in this case are to worry the most of these elusions. The government still owes them over a thousand cedis and more in trainee allowances which may likely be discarded since they end their training later this year. A two month payment of GHS400 each till they end their training in the colleges of Education should make them discard their unpaid arrears and even forget about it. These elusive messages and assurances may be channeled through their defunct mouthpiece, TTAGAgain, the issue of the CETAG strike also comes to play in this regard. Continuing students should expect news of payment of their monthly stipends after their lecturers have been settled.

NB: these are not prophecies or politically informed assertions. These are analysis based of authoritative facts and sources. They may as well be opinions of the editor which leaves trainees to make self informed choices and decisions.
