Information gathered by THE BASE over digital waves including credible radio and television stations indicate a possible leave for Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) members from Monday the 12th of September, 2022 till the 28-day leave period is exhausted. Although warnings have been issued by the Principal governing body of the colleges of education, CETAG still insists that they are legally inclined to enjoy a yearly working leave as per the labor laws of the country.
As a sign of this impending leave, several tutors/lecturers of the various public colleges in the country have not step foot into classrooms since trainees resumed for academic purposes. Most of these lecturers are usually seen conversing about allowances due them or the impending leave on Monday. Although the situation may not be same for all colleges, one certain confirmation is that teacher trainees will LIKELY NOT MEET LECTURERS FROM THE 12TH OF SEPTEMBER ONWARDS SINCE PRINCOF IS NOT READY TO ENGAGE IN ANY DIALOGUE WITH THE AGRRIEVED CETAG OVER WHAT IT DEEMS 'A MERE UNSUBSTANTIAL VACATION OF DUTY.'
Another argument raised by CETAG which has contributed to the momentum of the request for a working leave is that, no further financial commitment has been made towards appeasing tutors for their extra contact hours and overloaded schedules. They feel their welfare has totally been ignored by the government and PRINCOF. This has aggravated the situation, in that, several local heads and chairs of CETAG have resorted to engaging the media to get their grievances pressed home.
AS THINGS STAND, IF BY THE 12TH OF SEPTEMBER 2022, NO ENGAGEMENTS ARE MADE WITH CETAG FOR THE IMPENDING THOUGHT OF A POSSIBLE WORK LEAVE, TEACHER TRAINEES MAY NOT FIND THEIR LECTURERS ON CAMPUS.
