This paper consists of two sections, A and B. Answer ALL the questions in Section A and TWO question from Section B. Section A will be collected after the first 1 hour.

SECTION A

Answer ALL the questions in this Section.

For items 1 to 20, identify the grammatical name of the underlined phrases.

For items 21 to 30 provide the punctuation for each sentence and label it as Declarative, Interrogative, Exclamation or Imperative.

For items 31 to 40, join the pairs of sentences with coordinating conjunctions to have a single sentence in each case.

31. Alice wrote the letter. She posted it.

33. He is ill. He is cheerful.

34. My friends begged me. I chose not to go to the reunion.

SECTION B

Answer any TWO questions in this section.

1. Using clear examples, discuss the adjective phrase. (10 marks)

2. Both the Noun Phrase and the Gerund Phrase have some similarities. Discuss these similarities,

citing good examples to support your points. (10 marks)

3. Explain the complex sentence to your upper primary pupils. (10 marks)

4. Distinguish between the Exclamatory and the Imperative sentences. (10 marks)
