MATTERS ARISING, OUT PROGRAMME(STS)

While some colleges are aware of the changes, some are on the blind side of the trend that B.ED Primary education students posted to undertake the three month mandatory STS are to compulsorily teach EMS( English, Mathematics and Science) while JHS Students who, fortunately or unfortunately, were posted to upper primary classes are to indulge in subject teaching. 

It must again be noted that students whose major subject areas are inclusive of the EMS must prepare lesson notes on only the EMS while those whose major areas fall outside the EMS must prepare lesson notes on the EMS and their additional major subject area, totaling four subjects. This new directive, as observed by The Base greatly contrasts the subject matter and pedagogy practiced and learnt in the various colleges before the Macro Teaching programme.

 Students had to learn the Curriculum of their major subject areas and subsequently study METHODS of teaching subjects of their major areas. They were later taken through an ON CAMPUS teaching practice on their major and minor areas to get them equipped with the rudimentary practices of those areas. This new directive comes as a big blow to students who have to quickly improvise and adapt to subjects they are no where familiar with.
