END OF SEMESTER EXAMINATIONS TO BE...read more
Information reaching The Base indicates that a week long ultimatum has been served to the Government and all stakeholders involved in the disbursement of the Teacher Training monthly allowance, to settle all pending arrears due trainees or face a week long street demonstration by October 11, 2021. According to the agitated trainees, the government of Ghana has not settled allowances for the sixth consecutive month with September being the latest addition, pushing the total arrears to a whooping GHC1400 per trainee and an additional GHC200 for level 400 students who embarked on the Macro teaching program since their feeding components are also due them. To them, the government has not dealt with them fairly as issues concerning their welfare has been utterly mishandled by their parent body TTAG. According to these trainees, their mouthpiece, The Teacher Trainee Association of Ghana(TTAG) has poorly managed their grievances and has become accustomed to releasing documented communiques which only promise but do not deliver.
As a result, trainees in the past month, took to an online demonstration to seek government attention and get their arrears settled. This demonstration, which was largely twitter based, got many talking. The Ministry of Education, in response to these waves, postulated that trainees would be completely settled before September ends.
As this has not happened and further promises are being made by TTAG and the Ministry, trainees, whose identities would be disclosed in a press briefing slated for October 5, 2021 have already petitioned the Ghana Police Service to allow them demonstrate to get their views heard and addressed.
11 of October is too far let us hit the street the coming week
